What do I do once I am admitted to Mercer University?

Below you will find a checklist to help you as you prepare to become a Mercer student:

Be Admitted to Mercer

Students who have applied may receive acceptance to Mercer as early as August of their senior year of high school. Congratulations!

Submit
Immunization Form

Immunization Forms are mailed to new students with their enrollment packet on March 15, 2013. This double-sided form (also found hereshould be mailed back to the Student Health Center soon as possible. This document requires students to provide their immunization histories for measles, mumps, and rubella along with the signature of a physician or health care provider.  It must be completely filled out and received by the Student Health Center before beginning classes at Mercer. 

Review Scholarship Information

Various kinds of scholarships may be awarded to qualifying students.  Letters offering scholarships begin to go out in October.  For the Presidential Scholarship, invitations go out in November.  For HOPE and other Georgia Aid information, click here.

Complete FAFSA

In order to receive federal and state financial aid, students must have filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.  The information is then sent to Mercer's Office of Student Financial Planning(code # 001580) for use in determining financial aid packages.

The housing application provides Housing and Residence Life vital information on where to house each incoming student, as well as serves as a contract between the student and Mercer for housing for that year.  Fill out your application here.  Housing assignments are finalized in late July and posted on your MyMercer account.

Review University Bill

The Bursar's Office mails university bills beginning in May.  These bills are subject to change, but provide insight into expenses. 

Review Health Insurance Information

Mercer requires all students to carry health insurance.  As such, Mercer offers an affordable health care plan students may purchase each semester.  Information about the plan, as well as how to waive the fee if you already carry insurance, can be found here.

Register for Summer Orientation

First-year students can fill out their Online Academic Profile beginning on April 1st.  The Online Academic Profile is an important tool used by academic advisors when constructing student class schedules.  This is also how first-year students register for Summer Orientation in June.  Students will receive information in the mail and via e-mail with the link to the Online Academic Profile.

Attend Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation is designed to give first-year students and families information about attending Mercer.  Summer Orientation provides an opportunity for students to receive and review a fall course schedule, tour the residence halls, get a student ID card made, and meet other members of the incoming class.

Purchase Textbooks

Students can look up textbook ISBN numbers and purchase textbooks at the Mercer University Bookstore Barnes & Noble website.  For more information, click here.

Complete Summer Reading

All first-year students are expected to complete the summer reading for review in UNV 101 or BUS 103.  More information on the Summer Reading, The Whisper of the River by Ferrol Sams, can be found here.

Attend Move-In Day and Bear Beginnings

First-year students move into their residence halls the Saturday before fall classes begin.  Our fall orientation program, known as Bear Beginnings, is when first-year students will meet their orientation group (O-Group), Peer Advisor (PA), and academic advisor.

What should I know about science courses and math placement?

Registration for many math and science courses requires a minimum level of math competency.  Such competency can be shown with certain AP test score for math coursework or by taking the math placement exam, which is offered on the Macon campus during events.

How can I receive campus mail?

As a new Mercer University student you will be given a campus mailbox. This will be your mailbox throughout your time at Mercer. To inquire about your Mercer University box number, contact the University Post Office in the Connell Student Center.  Once you have a MU box number, your campus mailing address will be:

Your campus e-mail address is your main contact with Mercer faculty, staff, and other students!  Be sure to check it often for vital updates from the campus community, fellow students, professors, and departments.  When you first log into your e-mail account, your username is your student ID number@live.mercer.edu, and your password is your birthday in the format YYMMDD.  For example, Toby Bear’s ID number is 18332010 and his birthday is January 14, 1833.  His username is 18332010@live.mercer.edu and his password is 330114.
