What do I do once I am admitted to Mercer University?

Below you will find a checklist to help you as you prepare to become a Mercer student:

Be Admitted to Mercer

Be sure to maintain contact with your transfer admissions counselor so you can ask questions that require specific answers, such as which courses at your previous institution will transfer.

Submit
Immunization Form

This double-sided form (found hereshould be mailed back to the Student Health Center soon as possible. This document requires students to provide their immunization histories for measles, mumps, and rubella along with the signature of a physician or health care provider.  It must be completely filled out and received by the Student Health Center before beginning classes at Mercer.

Review Scholarship Information

Various kinds of scholarships may be awarded to qualifying students.  Contact your transfer admissions counselor or Office of Student Financial Planning for more information.

Complete FAFSA

In order to receive federal and state financial aid, students must have filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.  The information is then sent to Mercer's Office of Student Financial Planning(code # 001580) for use in determining financial aid packages.

Submit
On-Campus
Housing
Contract

The housing application provides Housing and Residence Life vital information on where to house each incoming student, as well as serves as a contract between the student and Mercer for housing for that year.  Fill out your application here.  Housing assignments are finalized in late July and posted on your MyMercer account.

Review University Bill

The Bursar's Office mails university bills beginning in May.  These bills are subject to change, but provide insight into expenses.

Review Health Insurance Information

Mercer requires all students to carry health insurance.  As such, Mercer offers an affordable health care plan students may purchase each semester.  Information about the plan, as well as how to waive the fee if you already carry insurance, can be found here.

Register for Transfer Orientation

Once a transfer student has secured attendance to Mercer by paying the enrollment deposit with the Office of Admissions, the student is sent a link via e-mail to register for 1) Spring Orientation, 2) May Orientation, or 3) Transfer Student Orientation.  Contact your transfer admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions with any additional questions.

Attend Transfer Orientation

While attending an orientation, you register for classes, get your student ID card, take a math or foreign language placement exam, and receive other important information about the transfer process at Mercer University.

Purchase Textbooks

Students can look up textbook ISBN numbers and purchase textbooks at the Mercer University Bookstore Barnes & Noble website.  For more information, click here.

Attend Transfer Welcome Day

After Transfer Student Orientation, transfer students attend our fall orientation program known as Transfer Welcome Day.  This special program for transfer students provides an opportunity to connect with other transfer students, buy fall textbooks, and generally prepare before the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.

What assistance is offered to International Students?

If you are an international student, the Office of International Programs is here to help!  To visit the Office of International Programs website, click here.

What should I know about science courses and math placement?

Registration for many math and science courses requires a minimum level of math competency.  Such competency can be shown with transfer credits for math coursework or by taking the math placement exam, which is offered on the Macon campus during events.

Transfer students should also know that much of Mercer-Macon's science coursework is taught in sequence, and that some classes are only offered during certain semesters.  For instance, general chemistry I (CHM 111) is taught only in the fall and registration requires credit for mathematics at the pre-calculus level or higher.  Similarly, introductory biology I (BIO 211) is taught only in the spring and requires credit for CHM 111 or its equivalent.  Check the
2012-2013 Course Catalog for requirements related to your specific major, program, or track.

What orientation programs are available for transfer students?
Spring Orientation:

for all new students beginnings in the spring semester

May Orientation:
