Welcome to the Office of Academic and Advising Services! Our office provides resources to Mercer students during their first year and beyond. Located in Penfield Hall, across from Tarver Library, this office coordinates a variety of programs and services, listed to the right of this page.
Mission Statement:
The Office of Academic and Advising Services is a vital partner in the task of promoting the educational success of Mercer University undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts, the Stetson School of Business and Economics, the School of Engineering, the Tift College of Education, and the Townsend School of Music. The purpose of this office is to foster the academic success of all undergraduate students, with an emphasis on first-year students. The office has two primary foci.

First, the office provides a comprehensive academic support program for first-year undergraduate students through the UNV 101 course, academic advising, and orientation programs. Second, the office enhances academic advising for all undergraduate students through the following: coordinating academic advising for first-year students; sponsoring Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society for first-year students; planning activities for and communicating regularly with second-year students to encourage their success; managing student academic interventions; providing advising for transfer students and for students interested in preparing for and applying to professional and graduate schools; coordinating the university’s honors program; and providing training and serving as a resource for faculty advisors.
About Academic and Advising Services
The Office of Academic and Advising Services provides resources to Mercer students during their first year and beyond. Located in Penfield Hall, across from Tarver Library, this office coordinates a variety of programs and services, including:
- academic advising for first-year and transfer students
- advising resources for all students
- advising and resources for students who plan to apply to professional or graduate schools
- workshops and programs to aid students in exploring the various academic majors offered at Mercer
- four-week and mid-term progress reports designed to provide helpful feedback to students regarding their academic progress
- summer, August, and January orientations
- UNV 101, a course designed specifically to assist new students in transitioning to college life and to life at Mercer in particular
- UNV 201, a course created to prepare student peer advisors to serve as peer instructors
- First-Year Colloquia, a series of presentations for the first-year class focusing on diverse topics, such as Making College Count and The Many Faces of AIDS.
