MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women’s soccer head coach Grant Serafy announced the recent addition of Raschelle Riley to the 2007 signing class, bringing the Bears’ total to eight signees.
Riley, a 5-foot-5 defender from Edgewater High School in Orlando, Fla., was a four-year starter for Jason Mann’s Eagles. She was named first team Central Florida in 2007 while also earning second-team Orange County honors. Riley also earned a spot on the 2007 Michelle Akers All-Tournament team.
In 2006, Riley earned second team Central Florida honors while garnering first team Orange County recognition in addition to being named 2006 Defensive Player of the Year and first team metro honors. The Eagles were 2004-05 state runner-ups and won the District 6A title in 2006-07.
She also played for the FC America Kumba club team that reached the FYSA state finals in 2004 and semifinals in 2005. Riley currently plays for the FSA Lightning under the guidance of former WUSA player Kim Montgomery.
“Raschelle is a very strong and athletic defender. Her pace is a great asset and she has the ability to get forward,” said Serafy. “We are very happy to have her join the Mercer family and expect to see immediate contributions from her.”
The Bears play their first spring match Wednesday, March 14, against Erin Mills Eagles, a Canadian youth squad, at 6 p.m. at Bear Field.
