The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is a professional degree for qualified students interested in the management of human, material, and financial resources in business, government, and non–profit organizations. The program is tailored to meet the needs of individuals already employed as managers, as well as persons preparing for advancement into middle management or administrative levels.

To implement this mission, the MBA program is constructed around the following tasks and objectives:

  • Examination of the relationship between businesses and society in order to heighten each student's awareness of the social dilemmas and value conflicts which affect an organization's performance;
  • Development of greater understanding of human behavior in organizations along with developing the attitudes and skills necessary to achieve effective working relationships;
  • Development of analytical techniques and multi–disciplinary approaches useful in making and implementing decisions;
  • Development of the broad vision necessary to cope with complex managerial problems in a global environment;
  • Establishment of a real world experience base by maintaining continuous interaction with community organizations, profit and non–profit, through seminars and special programs for practicing managers and administrators.

Program of Study

Level One – Foundation Courses
BAA 505 Micro and Macro Economics
BAA 510 Accounting and Finance
BAA 515 Management and Marketing
BAA 520 Legal Environment of Business

These courses, or their equivalents, should be completed before admission to Level II courses of the MBA program. Students are required to complete these courses with a grade of "C" or better to receive credit for having completed MBA program prerequisites. The transcript will reflect these courses and reflect the grades earned.

Equivalents for these courses are:
BAA 505 - ECN 150, Principles of Microeconomics and ECN 151, Principles of Macroeconomics
BAA 510 - ACC 204, Introductory Financial Accounting and FIN 362, Principles of Finance
BAA 515 - MGT 363, Principles of Management and MKT 361, Principles of Marketing
BAA 520 - BUS 346, The Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Environment of Business

Level Two – Core Courses
All candidates for the MBA degree are required to take the following Program of Study:

A. MBA Core Program (21 Hours)

  • BAA 601 Managerial Economics
  • BAA 603 Managerial Accounting
  • BAA 605 Marketing Concepts and Practices
  • BAA 607 Management Information Systems
  • BAA 609 Corporation Finance
  • BAA 611 Operations Management Science
  • BAA 613 Ethical Leadership

The Program Director or Dean may approve waiver of an MBA core program course. The student will be permitted to substitute an appropriate elective course.

B. Electives (12 Hours)
Each student in the program is required to take 12 semester hours (four courses) beyond the MBA core. One of these courses must be an international elective.

C. Concluding Case Study Seminar –– BAA 699 (3 Hours)
Each candidate is required to take BAA 699: MBA Capstone. The MBA Capstone is the culmination course for the MBA program. The course provides students with the opportunity to correlate, integrate and apply the concepts and principles that have been learned in the core and concentration courses of the MBA program. Prerequisite: Restricted to candidates who have completed the core program. The course is normally taken as the final course in the MBA program. The concluding case seminar must be taken in residence at Mercer.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

A. Evaluation of Foreign Credentials
Applicants who completed all or part of their education abroad are required to have their foreign educational credentials evaluated by an independent evaluation service. A Course-by-Course and Grade Point Average Equivalent Evaluation is required for undergraduate admission. Contact the Office of Admissions for information about evaluation services if your foreign credentials have not been evaluated. If an evaluation has been done, you must submit an official sealed copy with your self-managed application packet.

B. Official Translations
Documents submitted in a language other than English, must be accompanied by official translations.

C. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
The TOEFL is required for international applicants whose primary language is not English. The scores may not be more than two years old. Official score reports must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions by the Educational Testing Service. The Educational Testing Service institution code for submission of official score reports is 5025. Unofficial copies of the score report may be included in the self-managed application for initial review and evaluation. This does not replace the requirement of an official score report for those applicants who are offered admission.

D. Financial Guarantee
International applicants who wish to obtain an I-20 for F-1 visa must include financial documentation showing ability to finance tuition and living expenses for one year. Financial documents must have a current date and indicate available funds of US$25,000.

E. International Applicants Who are Currently in the United States
Documentation of your current visa status must be submitted with the self-managed application. (Copy of I-20 and I-94 if on an F-1 visa; copy of visa stamp and I-94 if on another type of visa; or copy of Resident Alien card [front and back] if classified as a Resident Alien.)
