The Center for Leadership and Volunteerism is a clearinghouse for volunteer service at Mercer, matching community organizations and agencies with student volunteers and organizations through volunteer fairs and placements. The Center also places interested students, including work-study students, in tutoring positions in Bibb County through the America Reads/America Counts Programs. In addition, the Center offers paid student internships with local nonprofit agencies. The Center sponsors Leadership MU, an annual leadership workshop for student leaders. And, beginning in 2008-2009, the Center will document student volunteer and leadership activity through a co-curricular transcript available to all Mercer undergraduates. The Center is a strategic initiative of the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan, which focuses on enhancing student moral development through service, leadership, and ethics.
