Academic Standards for M.Ed Students

Students in the M.Ed Program are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 ("B") in all classes taken for the degree.  If a grade below "C" is assigned in a graduate class, no credit is awarded for that class.  Students cannot have more than two "C/C+'s" in those classes counted towards the degree.  Students may repeat a class only once in order to increase the grade earned in that class, and no student may repeat more than two classes in his/her program of study with Mercer.  A student may not repeat an equivalent class at another college in order to replace a grade earned at Mercer.

If a student's cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, the student will be placed in a probationary status until he/she raises the average to 3.0.  A student who is on academic probation is limited to one course per semester until the average has been raised to 3.0.  If the semester average falls below 2.0 ("C"), the student's case will be reviewed by the appropriate Chair and the graduate faculty and, without extenuating circumstances, the student will be dismissed from the graduate teacher education program.

Academic Standards for Ed.S Students

Candidates for the Specialist in Education degree must meet the following standards:
  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale is required in all courses attempted to satisfy degree requirements.
  • No grade lower than a "B" may be used to satisfy degree requirements.
  • A course in which a student earns a "C+" or lower may be repeated only once.  Up to 6 semester hours of courses for graduate credit may be repeated.  A student may not repeat an equivalent class at another college in order to replace a grade earned at Mercer.
  • All degree requirements must be completed within a six-year period.
  • Students who do not enroll for three consecutive semesters are subject to all program policies, guidelines, and requirements in place at the time of reenrollment.
