Admission to a Certification-Only program:

Tift College of Education offers initial certification programs to students who hold Bachelor's degrees from an accredited college of university in a major other than education and who wish to enter a teacher educaiton program with the intent to seek inital certification in a teaching field.  Applicants interested in completing their initial certification requirements through the graduate program on the Atlanta graduate campus must hold a Master's degree from an accredited institution.  Certification-only students must first be admitted to Mercer University as non-degree students through one of the admissions offices listed above.   In addition to completing and submitting the application for University admission, the applicant should also complete an Application to Teacher Education Candidacy (click here for the Macon/RACs and here for the Atlanta Application) and submit it to the Admissions Officer in the Office of Certification (address is on the application).  After the applicant has been admitted to the University, the Office of Certification will review the application for Teacher Education Candidacy and notify the applicant of the admission to candidacy decision.  Prior to full admission to Teacher Education Candidacy, the student will be limited to non-restricted education courses required for certification.  Full admission status is also required in order to qualify for financial aid available only to students in teacher education programs.  For questions about the certification-only program option, contact Professor Carolyn Garvin (Macon and Reginal Academic Centers) or Dr. Allison Gilmore (Atlanta).
