Instructions for Creating a Portfolio

There are two basic ways to create a portfolio.  You should only create it one time and use that portfolio document for the entire time you are in your program.

Option A (most common):

  1. Click the Documents tab located in the top center of the screen.
  2. From within the My Work tab, click the New button.
  3. From the Choose a Folder dropdown menu, choose the Portfolios folder listed under the Mercer University section (NOT the LiveText section).
  4. From the Choose a Template dropdown menu, choose the portfolio for your program (see the chart below). (MAT candidates, be sure to choose the MAT version for your program.)
  5. Enter a Title (include your name and the program in your title; example: Jane Smith’s Secondary English Certification Portfolio OR John Brown’s MAT Middle Grades Certification Portfolio).  Leave the Description blank.
  6. Choose the Multiple Page option from the Layout drop-down.
  7. Click the Save as New Document button.
  8. Use this document whenever you are given a Portfolio Assignment in a course, simply adding the required artifact(s) and reflection(s) to the portfolio and submitting the entire portfolio as the required document for the assignment.

Option B:

This option is only available to students taking certain courses.  Some of the early courses in programs have program portfolio templates included in the Portfolio Assignment.  You can determine if you have this option by opening your Portfolio Assignment in the course and checking to see if there is a portfolio included in the Assignment Template section.  If so, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Use this Template button next to the assigned template. Only do this once – each time you click “Use this Template,” LiveText creates a new document.
  2. When the document opens, click the Edit Properties tab and change the document’s title to make it your own (see #5 above).
  3. Henceforth, after you’ve created this document through the course assignment, you will find the portfolio document in your documents list under your My Work tab (which is located under the Documents tab). (See instructions under #1 – do NOT create multiple portfolios by returning to the Use this Template link again.)
  4. Use this document whenever you are given a subsequent Portfolio Assignment in a course, simply adding the required artifact(s) and reflection(s) to the portfolio and submitting the entire portfolio as the required document for the assignment.
