Linking LiveText Documents or Forms to Other Documents:

In some cases, you will want to, or be required to, link a document (or a form) in LiveText to another document you have created.  This applies primarily to links you will be placing in your portfolio – you will want to put links in your portfolio that will connect to some of your field experience assignments and to your Summative Evaluations.  If an instructor uses LiveText for a particular assignment in a course, requiring you to create the assignment in LT, you might need to create a link in the portfolio to use the course assignment as an artifact.  You can create two kinds of links in LiveText: one to another LiveText document or one to something on the internet (usually outside of LiveText).

Linking to something inside of LiveText:

  1. When in Editing mode for a section of a document, click on the symbol in the tool bar named “Insert LiveText Link” (it is next to the spellcheck ABC symbol).
  2. A window will open with a list of all the documents in your MyWork space.  If you have filed the document you are looking for in a different label, click the drop-down menu to choose the correct label.
  3. Locate the document you want to link to, select it, and click Insert.  A hotlink, containing the document title, should now appear in your editing box.  Save and Finish.

Linking to a Form inside LiveText (same instructions for linking to something outside of LiveText):

  1. While in Editing mode for a section of a document, type the text that you want to turn into a link – for example, Summative Evaluation: Practicum, CT (to create a link that will connect to the Summative Evaluation from your Classroom Teacher during Practicum).  Save and Finish.
  2. Leave the document you are working on and return to MyDesk; go into your Forms section.
  3. Click on the form you want to link to (clicking on the form name itself, not the Take Form link).
  4. When the completed form appears in your browser window, select and copy the url from your browser address window.
  5. Return to the document where you want to put the link and go back into the editing mode for the section.
  6. Select the text you want to turn into a link and click the Insert/Edit Link (it looks like a globe with glasses in front of it).
  7. Paste the url you’ve just copied into the url space on the Link page and click OK.
  8. The selected text should now be a hotlink that will lead to your form.  Save and Finish.

For easier way to link to a LiveText Form, see the instructions on Adding Pages or Sections to a Document and follow the directions for adding a Form Viewer section.
