Thank you for your interest in Mercer's College of Liberal Arts!
The historic core of Mercer University, the College of Liberal Arts, seeks to help students gain a broad range of knowledge. With more than 100 full-time faculty, the College offers majors in nearly two dozen disciplines in the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the arts, humanities and communications.
The College is more than a set of academic departments. With Albert Einstein, we believe that it is not enough to teach a person a specialty. That can make an individual useful, "but not a harmoniously developed personality. It is essential that the student acquire an understanding of an a lively feeling for values ... and acquire a vivid sense of the beautiful and of the morally good."
We seek to educate broadly because we believe that a liberal education provides the best foundation for an examined life. In the global and complex society of the new millennium, we believe that liberal arts students will be best prepared to live as responsible citizens who can provide intellectual leadership and caring service. In short, a liberal education is excellent preparation for a career -- and for making a living. But its true goal is to help you make a life.
