Four Distinct Graduate Degree Programs Provide Flexibility |

Three of the graduate programs are taught by Townsend School of Music in Macon in conjunction with McAfee School of Theology in
Atlanta. These degree programs are ecumenical in nature, preparing
students for careers in churches of all denominations. As an

This degree is
intended for talented persons who have completed an undergraduate
degree in music and who want to enter an intense period of graduate,
professional study that would prepare them for the practice of church
music ministry. This program will enroll church musicians who want
to focus on conducting, piano, collaborative piano, voice and organ
studies. In most church settings, this is a terminal degree preparing
musicians for church music ministry. However, students may continue
training at the doctoral level in church or sacred music. |
The Master of Music in Conducting (Choral or Instrumental) Designed
for musicians who have completed an undergraduate degree in
music, this degree is intended for those who desire a career in
conducting or continued study at the doctoral level. This program
includes intensive training by both choral and
instrumental conductors, exploration of literature, practical
application, leadership, aural and compositional skills and vocal
pedagogy. By adding the designation "with an Emphasis in Church
Music," the conductor will be prepared to lead a local church or
community music ministry. |

This degree is
designed for exceptional musicians who have completed an undergraduate
degree in music and want to pursue intensive graduate studies in
performance. By adding the designation "with an Emphasis in Church
Music," the professional performer will be prepared to lead a local
church or community music ministry. The program will accomodate
piano, voice and organ performance. This degree is intended for those
who desire to have professional careers in performance or plan to
continue study at the doctoral level.

This degree is taught by McAfee School of Theology in
Atlanta, in conjunction with Townsend School of Music in
Macon, with accreditation through the Association of Theological
Schools. The curriculum is structured so students, who so desire,
can pursue a dual master's degree in music after completing their
master of divinity degree.
Developed for
individuals who will work with musicians and ministers of music in
their ministerial calling, the program places an emphasis on
how to incorporate music into the worship service and congregational
life of a church. |
