Dr. McCullough’s musical training includes undergraduate studies at Brown University, graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music, and additional studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in 2009 as a Franklin/Fontaine fellow.
As a composer, Dr. McCullough has composed numerous vocal works, pieces for chamber ensembles, and large-scale orchestral works, including a symphony and two concerti.
Dr. McCullough’s scholarly work focuses on tonal music of the 20th and 21st centuries. He has written essays on the music of Samuel Barber, Karol Szymanowski, John Corigliano and Jean Sibelius, among others.
