Jean Roberts
Adjunct - Senior Lecturer Piano Collaborative Piano
A native of New York, Dr. Jean E. Roberts is presently a Senior Lecturer in the Townsend School of Music of Mercer University. Following degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Yale University School of Music, she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano from the University of Texas at Austin. Much of her time is now spent playing chamber music, accompanying, teaching piano, and serving as organist at St. James Episcopal Church in Macon, Ga. She previously taught at Furman University, S.C., North Greenville College, S.C., and at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music in Perth, Australia.
Her performances have been broadcast on National Public Radio and by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She has performed with the Stirling String Quartet in Perth, Australia and for the Alec Wilder Festival in NYC. Orchestral performances include appearances with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Penang Festival Orchestra in Malaysia, the Charlotte Philharmonic, the Charlotte Repertory Orchestra, the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, and the Macon Symphony Orchestra. She has performed in Kitakyushu, Japan, for the Seinan Jo College and most recently in Lamezia Terme, Italy, as the featured concert at the Calabria International Piano Competition. She participates regularly in the Winter Chamber Music Festival in Perth, Australia, and the Red Lodge Music Festival in Montana. As a collaborative artist, she especially enjoys performing duo-piano recitals with her husband and chamber music with the Mercer Chamber Players. |
