Roberts is a pianist whose artistry has gained widespread appreciation over the years.  He has had the privilege of performing in Canada, Great Britain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.  In recent years, he has participated in A Winter Musical Feast, a chamber music festival in Perth, Australia; performed in Hibiki Hall in Kitakyshu, Japan; participated in The Friends of Alec Wilder annual concert in New York City; and presented a series of recitals in Italy.  Atlanta Audio Society’s review of his recent recording Poetry at the Piano:  Frederic Chopin stated that “his Chopin Third Sonata captures all the poetry, the variety and the pure depth of feeling that the composer invested in this work.” - New Classik Reviews

Formerly Artist in Residence and Head of Music at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music of the Edith Cowan University, John Noel Roberts has also served on the faculties at Furman University, South Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  He was chair of the Department of Music at Mercer University, Georgia from 1997 through 2006 and served as the inaugural dean of the newly established Townsend School of Music during the academic year 2006-07.  Roberts is currently the Callaway Professor of Music at Mercer University.  Teaching successes include former students serving on the faculties of major institutions on three continents and numerous students as winners of various competitions.

A native of Texas, Roberts took preparatory piano studies with Sister Mary Elaine Gentemann of Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.  He later graduated from the Eastman School of Music, New York, where he was a student of Eugene List and Barry Snyder.  At Eastman, he was awarded both the Easley-Hardinburgh Prize for the outstanding senior pianist and a performer’s certificate in piano.  He continued his graduate studies at the Yale University School of Music, Connecticut, where he received his doctoral degree in music.  At Yale, he studied with Claude Frank and Ward Davenny and was a winner in the Sprague Hall Competition.  Among Roberts’ many competitive honors are top prizes in the Artist Division of the Young Keyboard Artists Association International Competition, the Young Musicians Competition of the Lima Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Artists in Recital Competition.
