With a love for maternal-child nursing, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse in Tallahassee, Florida. She soon returned to school to earn a Master of Science in Nursing and became certified as a nurse midwife. She has worked in private practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in Georgia and Florida and has served as a faculty member in another nursing program. She enjoys lecturing and leading clinical groups. Though she is not currently practiciing as a CNM, Professor Shelton continues to work as a clinical nurse on a local antepartum unit. Her research interests include patient education and advocacy during pregnancy and birth.
