DIFFERENT PROGRAM STRUCTURES FOR DIFFERENT NEEDS
Mercer University offers three basic categories of semester- or year-long programs in order to maximize student options abroad. The application process, student eligibility, additional fees, and applicability of financial aid varies between programs. Please take time to explore each of the program options in order to find the one that fits your personal needs.
EXCHANGE PROGRAMS * Students must apply one year in advance (with the exception of Spring 09--those applications will be accepted unitl September 15, 2008) -The deadline for fall is November 1 -The deadline for spring is April 1 * Students interested in only one semester abroad may be limited to the spring semester at many locations * All academic hours and GPA credits transfer as Mercer credit * Students pay tuition to Mercer * Students pay accommodation fees to host institution, or to Mercer, depending on the program * Federal, state, and Mercer instutional financial aid and scholarship packages apply to these programs * Students are responsible for additional costs such as airfare, visa application fees, $500 study abroad fee, etc. *Students must enroll in ISA 101 the semester before departure
OXFORD OVERSEAS STUDY COURSE * Acceptance is competitive and limited * All academic hours and GPA credits transfer as Mercer credit * Students pay tuition to Mercer * Federal, state, and Mercer instutional financial aid packages apply to this programs * If program costs excede the cost of Mercer tuition, students pay the difference * Students are responsible for additional costs such as airfare,visa application fees, $500 study abroad fee, etc. *Students must enroll in ISA 101 the semester before departure
TRANSIENT PROGRAMS * Students must first apply to the Office of Study Abroad for transient program permission (one year in advance--see dates above) before applying directly to the programs. Mercer deadlines are far in advance of individual program deadlines. * Courses transfer to Mercer as transient credit; however, grades and quality points earned will have no effect on the cumulative Mercer GPA * All courses must be pre-approved *Students pay all tuition and fees directly to the foreign university or study abroad provider *Federal and state financial aid (loans/grants) may apply *Students pay a $250 Transient Study Abroad Administrative Fee to Mercer University *Students must enroll in ISA 101 the semester before departure
