High School String Musicians Need to Apply Now for Robert McDuffie Labor Day Festival for Strings

The search for the 16 exceptionally talented high school junior and senior violinists, cellists and violists who will participate in the second annual Robert McDuffie & Friends Labor Day Festival for Strings is coming to an end. Applications and audition materials are due by Friday, May 19. Robert McDuffie, an internationally renowned concert violinist and distinguished university professor of music at Mercer, developed the four-day intensive music learning extravaganza, which will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 4 at Mercer's School of Music. The festival offers students the opportunity to study with some of the nation's foremost string musicians. All students accepted to the Fall Festival receive a full scholarship, covering tuition, housing and meals. Information and applications are online at www.mercer.edu/mcduffie.

Three of Mercer's 10 Commencements to Be Held This Saturday

The University will hold its first three commencements on Saturday, May 6. Two of the commencements will be on the Atlanta campus: The Southern School of Pharmacy will graduate 130 doctor of pharmacy and Ph.D. candidates at 9 a.m. and Georgia Baptist College of Nursing will graduate 97 bachelor's and master's nursing degree candidates at noon. Mercer School of Medicine will graduate 89 doctor of medicine and master's degree candidates at 5 p.m. in the University Center on the Macon Campus

At theSouthern School of Pharmacy Ceremony
In this year's graduating Doctor of Pharmacy class, nine students have completed the exceptionally rigorous pharmacy program with a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout their four years of study.

At the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing
The sole recipient of the University's most distinguished honor for community service and leadership, the Griffin B. Bell Award for Community Service, is a graduate of the College of Nursing. Hollie Benet Preston will graduate with a bachelor of science in nursing degree following an outstanding career at Mercer where she excelled not only as a student, but also as a servant to others.

School of Medicine
Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will have the distinction of being the first speaker to address graduates in The University Center when she speaks at the School of Medicine commencement. The School will also award two honorary degrees for service to the medical professional: Dr. Gerberding and Dr. W. Douglas Skelton, public health director for Chatham and Effingham counties, Georgia Department of Human Resources.

Business School Introduces Accelerated Executive MBA program at free Information Session on May 11 in Atlanta

The University will host an information session from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, on Mercer's Atlanta campus to introduce the new accelerated Executive Master of Business Administration degree. Designed for corporate professionals with a minimum of five years of experience, the program has been developed into a highly integrated, intensive, 16-month program. Classes are held every three weeks. Professors, administrators, admissions and financial aid counselors will be on hand to discuss the EMBA program, as well as the Flexible MBA program, which allows students to attend class only one evening per week in eight-week sessions.
