Expert Available to Discuss Stroke
Baseball great Kirby Puckett passed away last week at the young age of 45 from a stroke. Unfortunately,
this tragedy is common. Stroke is the third leading cause of death, affecting an American every 45 seconds and killing one every three minutes. Dr. Dare
Domico, professor of adult health nursing at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University, is available to talk with the media about stroke,
including warning signs and risk factors. Domico says there are risk factors for stroke that can and cannot be controlled. Some warning signs she advises
looking for include numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body; sudden confusion and trouble speaking; sudden difficulty
seeing in one eye; sudden trouble walking and dizziness; and sudden severe headache.
