Dr. Heather Bowman Cutway, associate professor of biology, presented a paper at the Ecological Society of America meeting in Memphis, Tenn. Her paper was titled “The Influence of Urban Land Use and Edge Permeability on Seed Dispersal and Wetland Invasibility.” She also participated in the Georgia Botanical Society Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage to Warm Springs, Ga., in May.
Dr. Alan Smith, professor of biology, had a review of Gordon Patterson’s text, The Mosquito Wars: A History of Mosquito Control in Florida, published in the September 2006 issue of Southeastern Biology, the official publication of The Association of Southeastern Biologists. He was also an invited speaker at a Festschrift honoring Dr. Michael Wells at the University of Arizona, Tuscon, Ariz., Oct. 25. The topic of the presentation was “The Manduca Project,” an educational outreach program that he co-developed with Wells and Diane Smith of Mary Persons High School, Forsyth. The Manduca Project has been in continuous operation for more than 15 years and has served more than 20,000 students.
