Dr. John Marson Dunaway, professor of French and interdisciplinary studies and director of Mercer Commons, had a French translation of his essay on Vladimir Volkoff published in Vladimir Volkoff: Dossier H. He participated in the 2006 Great Books Summer Faculty Workshop and gave a lecture in French on “The Call of God” for more than 300 students at the University of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, July 8. Dunaway gave a presentation on how to start a Faculty Christian Fellowship at the National Faculty Leadership Conference organized by Christian Leadership Ministries, in Alexandria, Va., June 22-25. He also attended the Lilly Endowment’s conference for Directors of Programs for the Theological Exploration of Vocation in Scottsdale, Ariz., June 1-3. Dunaway led the fourth annual Commons Summer Faculty Workshop on Faith and Learning, Mercer University, May 12-16. Twelve faculty members from five different colleges and schools of Mercer attended the 20-hour workshop. Dunaway also had a sermon entitled “The Ultimate Why” published in Jesse Mercer’s Pulpit: Preaching in a Community of Faith and Learning, edited by Drs. Wil Platt and Doug Thompson (Mercer University Press 2006). He also preached a message entitled “The Call of God” at Emmanuel Church, Macon, Oct. 22. Dunaway has had two meditations published in “Monday Ministry Minutes,” a weekly devotional resource published online and circulated via e-mail to Christian professors all over the United States. They are catalogued as #11, “God’s Unrecognized Presence” for 2005-06 and #7, “The Classroom as Holy Ground” for 2006-07.
Dr. Achim Kopp, professor of Latin and German, had an article on “Evidence of Convergence in Pennsylvania German” published in Supplemental Issue, Volume 2 of the Yearbook of German American Studies, entitled Preserving Heritage: A Festschrift for C. Richard Beam. In May he attended the 30th annual symposium of the Society for German-American Studies in Lancaster, Pa., and presented a paper on the same topic. On May 25 he participated in an item review session of the Latin Content Advisory Committee for the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators in Atlanta and he remains on the committee for the 2006-2007 academic year.
