The College of Liberal Arts has outstanding national and international scholars to the campus to lecture and to interact with students. These individuals enhance the learning experience for students across the disciplines of the College. While various departments and programs bring in speakers throughout the academic year, the three major lecture series of the College of Liberal Arts are:

The Ferrol Sams Lectures
The Ferrol A. Sams, Jr. Distinguished Chair of English brings a nationally prominent fiction writer, poet or dramatist to Mercer each spring to teach creative writing and highlight the literary arts.

The Harry Vaughan Smith Lectures
The Harry Vaughan Smith Lectures brings outstanding theology scholars to teach and lecture at the University.

The Lamar Lectures Series
The Lamar Lecture Series promotes the permanent preservation of Southern culture, history and literature through lectures by nationally and internationally known scholars.

The 2007 Sams Professor

Margaret Gibson of Preston, Conn., will be in residence for several weeks during spring semester 2007. She will teach creative writing workshops for selected students as well as give public readings and lectures.
