Pre-Nursing

Spend your first two years at the College of Liberal Arts in Macon, then complete your Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing in Atlanta.

The pre-nursing program at Mercer University is designed to help students complete the requirements for admission to Mercer University’s Georgia Baptist College of Nursing (GBCN), which is located on the Atlanta campus.  Pre-nursing students should note that the pre-nursing program (PNU) is not a major offered by Mercer University, and there is no degree or certification earned for successful completion of the curriculum.  However, completion of the Mercer pre-nursing followed by successful completion of the nursing program at the GBCN leads to the degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Students should visit the GBCN Admissions website (http://www2.mercer.edu/Nursing/Admissions/default.htm) for details about their application process and for the most current information about their pre-requisites for admission.  Information about recruitment events can be found at http://www2.mercer.edu/Nursing/Academic+Programs/Bachelor+/Recrutiment.htm.

Pre-nursing students should note that competition for seats in all nursing programs is high, making academic performance very important.  It is suggested that PNU students maintain a grade point average (GPA) of over 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) to be competitive applicants to the GBCN.

Mercer PNU students may decide to apply to nursing schools other than Mercer’s Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.  Students who are considering application to a nursing school other than Mercer’s GBCN should note that not all nursing schools share the same admission requirements.  Students that plan to attend a non-Mercer nursing program will therefore need to fulfill the pre-requisites for admission to the nursing school(s) to which they plan to apply.

Mercer pre-nursing students should participate in academic advising programs provided by the pre-professional advisor at the College of Liberal Arts and/or the Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program at the GBCN.  PNU students should subscribe to Healthvoc-L, the e-mail list for students interested in health-related vocations.  Students may subscribe to this service by sending an e-mail to mailserv@mercer.edu.  The body of the message should contain the following text:

subscribe healthvoc-L
