Mercer Baseball Player Awarded National Post-Season Graduate Scholarship

MACON, Ga. – For the second time in as many weeks, former Bears’ outfielder John Dortch has collected a postseason graduate scholarship. The outfielder for Craig Gibson’s baseball squad continues to add academic accolades after becoming the second consecutive Mercer baseball player to earn the Atlantic Sun Conference’s male postseason graduate scholarship two weeks ago at the conference meetings.  This time the scholarship was a national award with each of the regional selection committees sending their top 10-15 list to the national committee. Medical School Teams with MedShare to Send Medical Supplies and Equipment to Zimbabwe

Dr. Mike Smith, a medical professor, and the Mercer University community have come together to raise the funding for the sending of a 40-foot container of medical supplies and equipment with Atlanta-based non-profit MedShare International. The medical products will benefit the Sanyati Baptist Hospital in Sanyati, Zimbabwe, a government-owned hospital that has trouble meeting the demands of its patients because of very limited medical supplies. The container, which left MedShare on June 19, includes items specifically chosen for the hospital by Dr. Mark Byler, a voluntary physician at the hospital in Harare and also an adjunct professor at the Mercer School... Mercer Student Documents Mission Trip to Ecuador On His Blog

PATATE, Ecuador — Mercer student Andrew Lockwood, of Ringgold, is spending his summer working with Baptist missionaries in Ecuador and is documenting his trip on his blog, andrewinecuador2008.blogspot.com. The trip, which began June 6 and will end Aug. 2, marks Lockwood’s fourth time in Ecuador. The junior industrial engineering student is keeping the blog this year to document his trip. Mercer Students Assist China's Earthquake Victims

CHONGQING, China — Mercer University nursing, public health, science and pre-med students, visiting China as participants in the Mercer On Mission program, embraced the victims of China’s recent earthquake with personal care packages and hospital visits in Chongqing this week. Mercer Athletics Wins A-Sun Fundraising Competition for 2007-08

 MACON, Ga. – The third annual Atlantic Sun Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) fundraising competition again shattered records as the combined efforts resulted in $21,966 raised for charities ranging from the American Cancer Society to local youth programs and local hospitals.  For the first time in the three-year history of the fundraiser, each school could choose their charitable cause. Medical Students Respond to Sugar Factory Disaster

SAVANNAH—Within minutes of the explosion at the Imperial Sugar refinery in Port Wentworth on Feb. 7, students from Mercer University School of Medicine began springing into action.
