Greater Atlanta Christian School, Augusta Preparatory Day School Share First Place in Mercer University Math Competition

Macon -- More than 300 students from 35 public and private high schools in Georgia competed in the Mercer University High School Math Competition held Nov. 10 in Macon.

Greater Atlanta Christian School took first place in the Georgia High School Association division, followed by Columbus High School, which placed second, and Valdosta High School, which placed third. In the Georgia Independent School Association, Augusta Preparatory Day School in Martinez won first place, First Presbyterian Day School in Macon placed second, and Deerfield-Windsor High School in Albany placed third.

Students placing in the ciphering competition were:

  • First Place Ð Evan Sussenbach, Columbus High School;
  • Second Place Ð Jiyoon Park, Greater Atlanta Christian School;
  • Third Place Ð Hui Hui Li, Statesboro High School;
  • Fourth Place Ð Philip Brady, Warner Robins High School;
  • Fifth Place Ð John Stubbs, Greater Atlanta Christian School.

Students placing in the morning exam were:

  • First Place Ð Jiyoon Park, Greater Atlanta Christian School;
  • Second Place Ð Dustin Bennett, Greater Atlanta Christian School;
  • Third Place Ð Andy Powell, Columbus High School;
  • Fourth Place Ð Philip Brady, Warner Robins High School;
  • Fifth Place Ð John Stubbs, Greater Atlanta Christian School.

Mercer University's College of Liberal Arts, Department of Mathematics, has hosted the math competition for 17 years, providing high school students with opportunities to practice and develop math skills in a competitive setting.
