In addition to general psychiatry, she specializes in the treatment of early childhood autism and psychiatric disorders in individuals with mental retardation and vision or hearing impairments. She also works with victims of abuse.

Brown is a professor in Mercer University School of Medicine, having previously served as associate and clinical associate professor.

Prior to joining Mercer Health Systems, Brown was in private practice in Columbus, and had served as staff psychiatrist at West Central Georgia Regional Hospital.

A graduate of Guy’s Hospital Medical School, University of London, she completed internships in general medicine and general surgery at St. Albans City Hospital, before entering residencies in pediatrics and psychiatry. She completed a residency in psychiatry at Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospital in London, where she was named a Fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry.

W. Grady Carter, M.D., has joined Mercer Health Systems, where he specializes in adult psychiatry. He earned the doctor of medicine degree from Mercer University School of Medicine, and serves as assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science and director of medical student education for psychiatry.

Carter completed a residency in psychiatry at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics in California. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. In 1998, he received the Academic Achievement Award from the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Department of Internal Medicine. He also received numerous awards while in medical school, including the Lange Academic Achievement Award, the Basic Science Award and the Physician’s Physician Award, which were presented to him by Mercer University School of Medicine.

Dr. Carter is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and served churches in Warner Robins and Macon before entering medicine.
