WHAT: Induction into the Mercer University Athletic Hall of Fame

WHEN: 5:45 p.m., Friday, April 12, immediately preceding the Mercer vs. Stetson baseball game.

WHERE: Claude Smith Field, Mercer's Macon campus

WHY: There are 134 members of the Mercer University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Myers has coached the Mercer baseball team since 1978, compiling more victories than any other baseball coach in Mercer history – 627. He has been Trans America Athletic Conference coach of the year four times in 1979, '81, '83 and '94. His teams won divisional titles in 1982, '94 and '97, and he has coached three conference players of the year, two all-Americans and 39 all-conference players.

Smith was an all-conference performer on the '81 and '83 conference champion teams. In 1981 he lead the team with a .408 batting average, the third highest in Mercer history. In 1983 he set the Mercer record for home runs with 24 and triples with seven. He was named to the all-TAAC tournament team in '80, '81 and '83. Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1983, Smith is currently a teacher in the Dade County Public School System in Miami, Fla.
