Mercer To Celebrate Founder's Day

Mercer University faculty, staff, students and friends will commemorate Founder's Day during a convocation on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. in Willingham Hall.

Mercer University alumnus Timothy R. Stapleton, M.D., will share his memories of Mercer and will discuss "How Much is Enough" during his keynote address.

Stapleton currently serves as a member of the Mercer University Board of Trustees. He also has served the School of Medicine as a member of its Board of Governors and as president of the Executive Board of the Alumni Association.

An orthopaedic surgeon, Stapleton joined Forsyth Street Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation Center in 1997. He previously served as a sports medicine specialist at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Ft. Gordon and as an emergency services physician at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He completed an orthopaedic fellowship at Hughston Sports Medicine Clinic in Columbus and an orthopaedic residency at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

A native of Hazlehurst, Stapleton earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and a bachelor of arts degree in Christianity from Mercer University in 1983. He earned the doctor of medicine degree from Mercer in 1987, and entered a family practice internship at Eglin Air Force Base.
