MACON, Ga. -- A former law school dean and two Columbus judges were recipients of prestigious awards at the Mercer Law School Law Day 2004 Luncheon. The event was held at the Macon Coliseum where members of the Macon Bar Association joined with Walter F. George School of Law alumni, students and friends in the annual observance.

C. Dent Bostick, who received his undergraduate degree at Mercer in 1952 and his law degree in 1958, was presented the 2004 Outstanding Alumnus Award. Bostick served as dean of the Vanderbilt University Law School from 1979-85. Vanderbilt recognized the accomplishments of Dean Bostick by naming the office of the dean for him and his wife Susan. Bostick is a native of Gainesville. He was presented the award by James V. Hilburn, 2003-04 president of the Law School Alumni Association.

Columbus Superior Court Judges Frank S. Jordan Jr. and Douglas C. Pullen were presented 2004 Meritorious Service Awards. Both Judge Jordan, who received his Bachelor of Arts from Mercer in 1969 and his law degree in 1972, and Judge Pullen, who received his B.A. from Mercer in 1967 and his law degree in 1970, have been instrumental in the creation of a new public interest fund at the Mercer Law School that will provide stipends and a loan forgiveness program for students who choose to work in the public interest field. Thomasville attorney William Sanders, incoming president of the Law School Alumni Association, and Savannah attorney M. Tyus Butler, vice president, presented the awards to the judges.

ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack was keynote speaker for Law Day 2004.
