In recognition and celebration of the Centennial of the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the judges of the Macon Judicial Circuit have invited the Court of Appeals to hold a special session of oral arguments in the Moot Courtroom of the Mercer Law School. Presiding Judge Edward H. Johnson, Judge M. Yvette Miller and Judge John J. Ellington comprise the Second Division which will hear the four cases on Thursday, Sept. 21, beginning at 10 a.m.

Judge Miller is an alumna of Mercer, earning her B.A. degree and J.D. from the University. She has been a member of both the Law School's Alumni Board of Directors and the Board of Visitors.

The Court of Appeals handles one of the largest caseloads of any appellate court in the United States. The caseload of the 12-judge court averages some 300 cases per judge per year. The Court sits in panels of three judges. The Court grants oral arguments in approximately 50 percent of the cases in which oral argument is requested.

The cases to be heard in oral arguments Thursday at the Walter F. George School of Law include:

>> In Re: Dennis Scheib
>> Global Diagnostic Development, LLC. v. Diagnostic Imaging of Atlanta, LLC.
>> Global Diagnostic Development, LLC. v. Northside Hospital, Inc.
>> Wachova Bank, N.A. and Robert Hardaway Ferris v. The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago (Inc.)
