ATLANTA  — Mercer University, which is celebrating its 175th year, will mark the anniversary with a special Founders’ Day event in Atlanta on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in Day Hall. The event begins at 3 p.m. and will formally kick-off the 175th anniversary celebrations on Mercer’s Cecil B. Day Graduate and Professional Campus in Atlanta.

The Founders’ Day event will feature a keynote address by Mercer Chancellor R. Kirby Godsey. The event will also feature a presentation of an American flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 14, the day of Mercer's founding 175 years ago.

Godsey, who was the longest serving president in Mercer's history, accepted appointment to chancellor upon leaving the president’s office on June 30, 2006. During his 27-year tenure, he expanded the University to include a business school, engineering school, medical school, school of education, theology school and music school and greatly expanded University enrollment and endowment. Godsey is also working on a book on the University's history, being developed for the 175th anniversary.
