MACON, Ga. — Mercer University President William D. Underwood today announced the appointment of Brian Dalton as senior vice president for enrollment management, effective July 1. Dalton, currently vice president for enrollment management and associate academic dean for program development at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn., succeeds Terry Whittum, who recently resigned to return to Florida for personal reasons.
“Brian is an innovative higher education leader with more than 15 years of experience in strategic planning, marketing, admissions, orientation, financial aid, curriculum development and first-year programs,” Underwood said. “Over the last 10 years at the College of St. Scholastica, he has doubled the size of the institution’s entering classes from almost 300 students to approximately 600 while, at the same time, strengthening the academic credentials and geographic diversity of those classes. He also has been highly successful in the development and implementation of academic programs for working adults at sites throughout Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. We are very pleased to have Brian assume this key leadership position at Mercer.”

Prior to his current position, Dalton served as dean of enrollment at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, and also worked in admissions at his alma mater, Gannon University, in Erie, Pa. He has an M.A. from Gannon and is completing a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dalton is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and has written numerous articles on enrollment management for a variety of higher education publications. As a senior associate consultant for Noel Levitz Inc., he has worked with more than a dozen private colleges and universities in the United States and Canada on enrollment management issues. The College of St. Scholastica achieved national recognition in 2002 when it received the Noel Levitz Marketing and Recruitment Excellence Award.
He and his wife, Diana, have three children: Abby, Shawn and Ian.
