The new season of concerts presented by Townsend School of Music includes more than 50 performances by students, distinguished faculty artists, and world-renowned guest artists who span nearly every musical genre. September’s concert lineup is illustrative of the musical diversity you may hear throughout the year in performances at Fickling Hall, the signature performance venue at the McCorkle Music Building.

The season begins with Classic Structures, a concert featuring the Faculty Brass Ensemble performing classical brass favorites including Ewald’s Quintet No. 3 paired with jazz selections, on Monday, Sept. 10. Then on Tuesday, Sept. 18, director of jazz studies Dr. Monty Cole performs a solo clarinet recital featuring works by Russian composers Prokofiev, Rimsky-Korsakov, Victor Babin and Gliere, accompanied by Jean Roberts, piano.

Rising conducting star Ward Stare, the newly appointed conductor of the Macon Symphony, takes up the baton for his inaugural concert with the Mercer University Orchestra on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The month ends with Mad About Chamber Winds I, the first in a series featuring the Mercer Chamber Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Douglas Hill, on Friday, Sept. 28.

Each of these performances begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information call (478) 301-5751.
