The Mercer Chapter of Sigma Xi, a faculty research honor society, held its spring banquet at the University Center on March 17. Thirty-four new members were inducted at the ceremony, which included remarks from Mercer President William D. Underwood and a keynote address by Mercer Provost Dr. Wallace M. Daniel.

In addition to the induction of new members, Dr. Jerry Baker, executive director of Sigma Xi International, recognized the two past presidents of the chapter, Dr. Curtis Herink, professor of mathematics, and Dr. Hodge Jenkins, associate professor of engineering, and presented them with awards for their service.
Dr. Daniel Hagan, professor of anesthesiology and president of the chapter, congratulated the 34 new members who were inducted into the society. Membership is by nomination and is open to faculty and students who have shown noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in a field of pure science, applied science or engineering as evidenced by publications in refereed journals or patents. During the induction ceremony, the new members agreed to conduct their research work diligently and to encourage fellow scientists to do the same.
