The Mercer teams participating in the Bibb County Cooperative Extension Service’s 2008 Walk Georgia campaign took home the “Georgia Cup” for the organization that walked the most miles during the fitness competition. In Bibb County, Mercer’s teams logged more than 5,000 miles between September and November beating out other Bibb County organizations for the title of most active institution.

In addition to the Walk Georgia Cup, the four-person team dubbed the “Mercer Marchers” also won the overall team competition, logging more than 3,000 miles. The Mercer Marchers were made up of Krista Wieters, Michael LeDoyen, F.M. Barron and Kevin Hatfield. More than two dozen Mercer employees participated and helped make Bibb County one of the most active in Georgia.

The Walk Georgia campaign is a state-wide program sponsored by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. It is designed to encourage Georgia residents to become more physically active.
