Carter Calls on Next Administration to Emphasize Human Rights

Homecoming to Provide Excitement for Alumni Return to Campus

As the days draw closer, there is much excitement among Mercer alumni about the many activities in which to participate during homecoming weekend, Nov. 21-23. The University’s decision to move homecoming to the fall for the first time in many years has been welcomed with an overwhelming show of support. The homecoming basketball game against Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, has become the focal point of interest, but many other exciting events are planned as well. [more]

Princeton Review: Business, Law Schools Among America’s Best

The Princeton Review named Mercer’s law and business programs among the nation’s best on Oct. 6, announcing that the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics in Atlanta and Macon was among the “Best 296 Business Schools” in its 2009 book and that the Walter F. George School of Law was among the “Best 174 Law Schools” in the 2009 edition of its law schools guidebook. The business school’s Atlanta MBA program also was ranked No. 3 in the nation in the category of “Greatest Opportunity for Women.” [more]

Mercer Launches BEAR 2.0 Project to Replace Computer Systems


Mercer has begun the roll-out of its new administrative computer system. The process will lead into the spring, when the new programs come on line to replace the current systems for student and alumni records, including the student information system, web portals, finance and human resources, application programming interfaces and business intelligence software. Provost Presents Paper in Russia at Sociology Conference

Mercer Provost Wallace Daniel traveled to Russia last month to deliver a paper in Moscow at the All-Russia Sociological Conference, sponsored by the Russian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Daniel presented a paper at conference, which ran from Oct. 18-25. [more]

Gift Aids Engineering Professor’s Research into Vein Treatment

A gift from a California company aided in the research of vein treatment methods led by Dr. Sinjae Hyun, associate professor of biomedical engineering. Hyun used the equipment to develop a new medical device, which he will present this summer to his research collaborators and the company. [more]

Professor's Grant to Create Course, Bring Speakers to Mercer

A new grant from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation will help Stetson School of Business and Economics professor Scott Beaulier, Ph.D., advance the study of political economy at Mercer University. Dr. Beaulier, the department chair and assistant professor of economics, will give a special topics course for the spring semester and bring in a number of high-level economists to deliver lectures on contemporary issues in political economy. The $16,000 grant will fund a one-credit course, Readings in Political Economy, this spring.  The grant will help cover the cost of books for students and to bring guest speakers to campus to participate in the course and deliver lectures on campus. Mercer Senior Producing Mercer Sports Videos for National Service

The Mercer Bears are getting new coverage online, thanks to a Mercer journalism student. Mercer Athletics are being featured in videos for UWIRE’S sports magazine video series “Campus Pulse,” produced by Mercer senior Shari Perkins, of Cumming. “Campus Pulse” is a weekly video series on college sports, created entirely by students on the ground at campuses around the country.  The series aims to capture the culture and excitement surrounding college athletics and promote the best young broadcast journalists around the country. John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, spoke at the Executive Forum Presented by BB&T on Oct. 7, followed by nationally syndicated radio host Neal Boortz on Nov. 3. [more]

Women’s Soccer and Coach Serafy Make History at Mercer

The women’s soccer team earned a piece of Mercer athletic history this fall, winning its first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship. An Oct. 25 victory over Campbell was also highly significant for head coach Grant Serafy, who became the all-time winningest coach in program history with his 39th career win, springing him past Ian Hayley in the school’s record books.
