Caring for Creation Conference Calls for a Change of Heart


There must be a change of heart and a new commitment to Care for Creation if we are to address humanity’s impact on the global environment, speakers told Mercer’s Caring for Creation conference, held Oct. 29-31 on the Macon campus. There must be comprehensive efforts to sway the evangelical Christian community in the United States, as well as individual efforts to further environmental stewardship in this country and around the world. Provost Announces Dean’s Search Committee for Walter F. George School of Law

Mercer Provost Wallace L. Daniel has announced the appointment of a search committee to lead the process of recommending a dean for the Walter F. George School of Law to succeed Daisy Hurst Floyd. Dean Floyd, who has led Mercer Law School since 2004, announced in September her intention to step down as dean at the end of the current academic year to become University Professor of Law and Ethical Formation following a sabbatical. Tickets are going fast for the 20th Annual Authors Luncheon, and Mercer University Press is expecting a record attendance for the Dec. 12 event, which will include a stellar lineup of nationally and internationally known authors. Africana Studies to Host Southeast Model African Union Conference  

Mercer’s Africana Studies Program will host the 13th Annual Southeastern Model African Union at the Macon Marriott City Center Hotel, Nov. 5-7. The event is a simulation of the proceedings of the African Union. [more]

McAfee to Hold Inaugural New Testament Lecture Series on Nov. 17

Mercer’s McAfee School of Theology will hold the Inaugural Peter Rhea and Ellen Jones New Testament Lectures on Nov. 17 in Day Hall. The inaugural speaker, James D. G. Dunn, is a renowned New Testament scholar and will give two lectures, at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., titled “A New Perspective on Jesus” and “The New Perspective on Paul.” [more]

Forensics Expert to Speak at Sigma Xi Lecture on Nov. 5

Dr. Stephen L. Morgan, an expert in forensic chemistry, will give the Fourth Annual Sigma Xi Distinguished Science Lecture at Mercer University on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Morgan’s lecture is titled “Forensic Analytical Chemistry: Basic Research behind CSI.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the auditorium of the Science and Engineering Building. Health policy expert Robert Laszewski will be the featured speaker at The Executive Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 10. He will give a breakfast presentation at 7:30 a.m. in the Presidents Dining Room of the University Center. The presentation is sponsored by the Center for Health and Learning, a partnership of Piedmont Healthcare and Mercer. Law School Hosts Annual Law Review Symposium

Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law is hosting its annual Law Review Symposium Nov. 5-6, bringing together the top legal writing scholars in the nation in celebration of 25 years of the Legal Writing Institute. Mercer Law School is the preeminent legal writing institution in the nation, being ranked first or second in the nation every year. [more]

Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Open 2009-10 with High Expectations

Both of Mercer’s basketball teams will begin their preseason tilts this week in what both head coaches hope will be the beginning of great 2009-10 campaigns. The teams tip-off in a double-header exhibition with Georgia College and State University on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the University Center. Tip off for the women’s game will be at 5 p.m. Men’s tip is set for 7:30 p.m. [more]

Six New Inductees Announced for Athletic Hall of Fame

MACON — The Class of 2009 for the Mercer Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted on Nov. 21, the day of the Homecoming basketball game against Florida State. The 31st class of inductees includes Bob Burks, Bill Finch, Tony Gattis, Scott Emerson, Anita Meadows-Mitchell and Craig Gibson. [more]

Medical Society Recognizes School of Medicine in Savannah

he Georgia Medical Society recently recognized Mercer’s School of Medicine campus in Savannah for making a difference in the health of the Coastal Empire community. The School of Medicine received one of three awards in the Institution/Organization category. The honor was presented during the organization’s Ninth Annual Health Care Heroes Awards Dinner. [more]
