Law School, CLA Deans Announce Returns to Faculty Positions

Richard Fallis, Ph.D., dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and Daisy Hurst Floyd, dean of the Walter F. George School of Law, announced recently that they will return to full-time teaching at the end of the academic year. Dean Fallis announced on Sept. 14 that he would retire as dean and – following a sabbatical – return to his faculty position in English. On Sept. 24, Dean Floyd announced that she would step down as dean to become University Professor of Law and Ethical Formation following a sabbatical. [more]

Provost Announces Dean’s Search Committee for College of Liberal Arts

Provost Wallace L. Daniel has announced the appointment of a search committee to lead the process of recommending a dean for the College of Liberal Arts to succeed Dr. Richard Fallis. Dr. Fallis, who has led the College of Liberal Arts since 2001, announced in September his intention to retire as dean at the end of the current academic year and return to a full-time post in the English Department following a sabbatical. University Launches Updated Web Site

Mercer launched its redesigned Web site (www.mercer.edu) Oct. 1, the first major redesign in three years. In addition to a new look and feel, the Mercer home page will be updated regularly to highlight programs, achievements and initiatives that demonstrate the distinctives that contribute to Mercer’s uniqueness — liberal learning, professional knowledge, discovery, service to humankind and community. Visitors to the site will be able to control which feature stories are highlighted on the home page by selecting from embedded thumbnail photos. [more]

Students Begin Pre-Conference Outreach with Green Service Projects


Groups of Mercer University students are volunteering with green projects throughout Macon to help residents reduce carbon emissions and build community projects. The efforts are part of the conference “Caring for Creation: A Scientific and Theological Response,” which will examine ethical,  scientific and religious dimensions of climate change. [more]

Brazilian Judges Visit Law School in Intercultural Learning Program

MACON – In a unique intercultural and educational judicial program, 17 federal judges from Brazil participated in a 10-day experiential learning visit at Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law to better understand the United States legal system. [more]

20th Annual Authors Luncheon Tickets Now On Sale

ATLANTA — Tickets are on sale for the 20th Annual Authors Luncheon, which will be held on Dec. 12 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will also celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Mercer Press and feature a number of celebrated authors, including Nancy Grace, Mercer University alumna and trustee. Homecoming Ticket Allotment for Faculty and Staff

The Homecoming basketball game against Florida State in the University Center on Nov. 21 at 4:30 p.m. is sure to be a sell-out. Because of the scarcity of tickets, the general public must purchase season tickets to gain admission into the Homecoming game. However, several hundred tickets are reserved for Mercer faculty and staff, while supplies last. [more]

Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy Awarded Grant

MACON — Mercer’s Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy and Capitalism recently received a $16,000 grant from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation to advance the study of political economy at the University through a lecture series and funding student travel to national conferences.  This is the second year of support from the Koch Foundation. Community Foundation Announces College Hill Challenge Grants  

The College Hill Corridor made big news this summer when it received a $5 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The grant includes $3 million to the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to fund residents’ best ideas for transforming the College Hill community through the Knight Neighborhood Challenge.
