Many of the premier college golf programs in the country will be headed to Macon to participate in the 2008 Brickyard Collegiate at the Brickyard at Riverside, Oct. 10-13. At this year’s event, Mercer -- as the host team -- will welcome many of the current top-ranked teams in the country including Georgia, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech and many others.
“This is a great opportunity to see many of tomorrow’s PGA Tour superstars up close,” said Andrew Tredway, Mercer’s head men’s golf coach. “Several of these players have already competed at the highest level, including Clemson’s Kyle Stanley and Virginia Tech’s Drew Weaver, who played in last year’s U.S. Open, British Open and Master’s tournaments.”
This year’s Brickyard Collegiate features three of the four U.S Amateur semi-finalists. The public is invited to attend any or all of the four-day sessions.
Last year, the University of Georgia dominated the field and shot 33-under-par for the week. Many of the players who participated last year commented that the gallery in Macon was larger than they witnessed at their conference or NCAA tournaments.
