Macon Campus Kicks off United Way Campaign

Building on the success of last year’s drive, the University has set a new goal for this year’s United Way employee campaign in Macon, titled “Live United,” which began in September, and will run through Oct. 31. This year, the University has increased its goal for the campaign to $47,000 and more than 250 donors. Last year, the University set a goal of $35,000 and 150 donors and far exceeded it, with 227 Mercer employees contributing $46,498. The campaign is co-chaired by Jay Pendleton and Diane H. Baca.

Live United, the slogan for the United Way campaign this year, focuses on three building blocks for a good life: Education– Helping Children and Youth Achieve Their Potential Through Education, Income-Helping Families Become Financially Stable and Independent, and Health-Improving People’s Health.

Mercer faculty and staff have received pledge cards and a brochure that lists the agencies receiving support through United Way of Central Georgia. The packet also included information on payroll deduction, which can be made in increments of $5 per month. With a contribution of $25, employees can designate support to an individual agency or a particular sector of United Way giving. Refer to the United Way website — www.unitedwaycg.com — for more detailed information about the full range of services and agencies the campaign supports. The United Way of Central Georgia represents 38 community agencies in 14 Central Georgia counties.

United Way is a non-profit organization that works with the 1,303 local United Way offices throughout the country in a coalition of charitable organizations to pool efforts in fundraising and support. United Way has played an important part in the lives of Central Georgia families who are in need. They support fellow organizations that deliver important services such as the Salvation Army and the Red Cross, which aided area residents affected by the tornado that struck Macon in May.
