As part of President Underwood’s reorganization of external affairs, University Relations and Marketing has been established as a separate division from University Advancement and renamed Marketing Communications. It is now under the direction of Larry D. Brumley, senior vice president for Marketing Communications and chief of staff.
Several new initiatives have been launched this fall as a result of the reorganization, including two new electronic communications efforts and the redesign of several University publications, including The Mercerian, which has been reformatted into a University magazine. The first edition of the magazine will be mailed in September.
New electronic communications include This Week@Mercer, a new online newsletter designed to give students, faculty and staff an overview of what is going on campus. This Week@Mercer pulls from the University Calendar, which is mainted on the University web site. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to post their events on the University Calendar, which will serve as the primary source of content for This Week@Mercer.
Marketing Communications also launched a news blog, called In The News, which highlights faculty, staff, students and alumni who are featured in the media. The blog can be viewed at blogs.mercer.edu/inthenews.
Richard L. Cameron, senior assistant vice president of Marketing Communications, has been named managing editor of The Mercerian and is also editor of This Week@Mercer. Cameron will continue to serve as media and marketing liaison for the School of Medicine, the Walter F. George School of Law and University Athletics.
Denise Cook has been named director of arts marketing, and will continue to serve as the designer, marketing and media manager for The Grand Opera House, as well as media liaison for the Townsend School of Music and the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings.
Mark Vanderhoek has been named director of media relations, and manages the University’s media outreach and is editor of the In The News blog. In addition to his work with the media, Vanderhoek continues his role as media liaison for the College of Continuing and Professional Studies, College of Liberal Arts, Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics, School of Engineering, MERC and the Tift College of Education. He will also continue to serve as managing editor of News@Mercer and News@Mercer Alumni Edition.
Marketing Communications will also be hiring a new director of online communications to expand the University’s online presence and work with administrative and academic units to ensure Mercer’s web pages are effectively marketing the institution.
Steve Mosley continues his duties as head of the University’s design efforts as assistant vice president of creative services. He is assisted by Matthew Smith, who continues in his role as a graphic designer and as the designer of electronic newsletters, including This Week@Mercer, News@Mercer and News@Mercer Alumni Edition.
Janet Crocker has been named Marketing Communications coordinator and continues to facilitate photography for all campus events and manages digital images data and distribution.
