The 2007 Mercer Preaching Consultation, held Sept. 23-25 at the King & Prince Beach and Golf Resort, St. Simons Island, had a record attendance of 230 participants, including many from outside Georgia. The Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor, who was named one of the most effective preachers in the English language by Newsweek magazine, was the keynote speaker, along with nine other outstanding speakers.
Mercer was well represented on the three-day program by President William D. Underwood; the Rev. Charles Foster Johnson, visiting instructor of preaching, McAfee School of Theology; Dr. Peter Rhea Jones, professor of preaching and New Testament, McAfee School of Theology, and Dr. Rick Wilson, professor and chair of the department of Christianity, College of Liberal Arts.

Sponsored by McAfee School of Theology and The Center for Baptist Studies, the 2008 program is already scheduled for Sept 28-30, with Dr. Greg Boyd, senior pastor of Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minn., and noted author, and Dr. Joel Gregory, professor of preaching at Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University and distinguished preacher, serving as the featured speakers.
