Softball Team Surpasses All-Time Wins Mark
Mercer junior Stacey Condra went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored as the Bears softball team outslugged Samford 6-3 on April 29 at Sikes Field. The game was an historic one for Mercer softball, as the Bears notched their 36th win of the season, the highest win total in program history.
Mercer ended its regular season at 37-17 (14-6 A-Sun) and is the first team to be 20 wins over the .500 mark in program history.
“We said before the season started that we were better on paper,” said head coach Mike Raynor following the Samford win. “Tonight was a milestone that put a period on the end of that sentence. What truly counts is what we do from here on out.”
The Bears now head to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, to be played at Stetson May 7-9. Depending on how Lipscomb fares this weekend, Mercer will either be seeded number two or three in the tournament. Entering this weekend’s play, Lipscomb is one game ahead of the Bears with a 13-5 conference mark.
