Anticipation Builds for Homecoming 2009
Planning has been under way for months and the final details for an action-packed Homecoming Week are almost complete. The second modern-day fall Homecoming will be held on the Macon campus Nov. 15-22 with plenty of activities for Mercerians of all ages.
Tickets for the Homecoming game against Florida State were snatched up quickly by alumni, students, faculty and staff as they became available, virtually assuring a second consecutive Homecoming game sellout. The only tickets remaining are those included in season ticket packages, which are available for $150. Those are available from the Mercer Ticket Office at (478) 301-5470 or www.MercerBears.com. Tip-off against the Seminoles is set for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. The game will be televised throughout the Southeast by Fox Sports Net.
The game is just one of many exciting events planned for the week. One of the most popular events from 2009 was the bonfire, pep rally and fireworks display on Friday night. Added to the Friday night schedule this year will be the Skit Competition at Willingham Auditorium, followed by a pep parade to Bear Hill for the bon fire, pep rally and fireworks.
New events this year include an Athletic Foundation Golf Tournament at Idle Hour Country Club on Friday and an alumni baseball game on Saturday morning at Claude Smith Field.
The Homecoming King and Queen will again be announced at halftime of the basketball game, as well as introduction of the six new inductees of the Mercer Athletic Hall of Fame.
