Medical Society Recognizes School of Medicine in Savannah

The Georgia Medical Society recently recognized Mercer’s School of Medicine campus in Savannah for making a difference in the health of the Coastal Empire community. The School of Medicine received one of three awards in the Institution/Organization category. The honor was presented during the organization’s Ninth Annual Health Care Heroes Awards Dinner.

The Georgia Medical Society was the first chartered medical society in the state of Georgia and is the oldest county medical society in the United States. Its present membership is made up of approximately 500 physicians practicing in the counties of Chatham, Effingham, Bryan, McIntosh and Long.

Caring for Creation Conference Calls for a Change of Heart

There must be a change of heart and a new commitment to Care for Creation if we are to address humanity’s impact on the global environment, speakers told Mercer’s Caring for Creation conference, held Oct. 29-31 on the Macon campus. There must be comprehensive efforts to sway the evangelical Christian community in the United States, as well as individual efforts to further environmental stewardship in this country and around the world. Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Open 2009-10 with High Expectations

Both of Mercer’s basketball teams will begin their preseason tilts this week in what both head coaches hope will be the beginning of great 2009-10 campaigns. The teams tip-off in a double-header exhibition with Georgia College and State University on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the University Center. Six New Inductees Announced for Athletic Hall of Fame

MACON — The Class of 2009 for the Mercer Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted on Nov. 21, the day of the Homecoming basketball game against Florida State. The 31st class of inductees includes Bob Burks, Bill Finch, Tony Gattis, Scott Emerson, Anita Meadows-Mitchell and Craig Gibson. [more]

Provost Announces Dean’s Search Committee for Walter F. George School of Law

Mercer Provost Wallace L. Daniel has announced the appointment of a search committee to lead the process of recommending a dean for the Walter F. George School of Law to succeed Daisy Hurst Floyd. Dean Floyd, who has led Mercer Law School since 2004, announced in September her intention to step down as dean at the end of the current academic year to become University Professor of Law and Ethical Formation following a sabbatical. Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law is hosting its annual Law Review Symposium Nov. 5-6, bringing together the top legal writing scholars in the nation in celebration of 25 years of the Legal Writing Institute. College of Nursing Celebrates Graduates at Nursing Alumni Awards Luncheon

The Georgia Baptist College of Nursing honored its graduates during its annual Nursing Alumni Day Awards Luncheon on Oct. 16. More than 175 graduates attended the luncheon, where the College inducted 12 alumni into its Hall of Honor and presented two graduates with its highest alumni awards. [more]
