October Features Numerous Alumni Events

October is a big month for alumni-oriented events, ahead of Homecoming in November.  Alumni events are planned for the Half Century Club, Macon undergraduate class of 1958, the Walter F. George School of Law, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.

Half Century Club

The Half Century Club, a club for those who graduated 50 or more years ago from the Macon undergraduate program, will hold a reception and dinner at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3 in the University Center Arena.  Judge Homer Drake, CLA ’54, LAW ’56, will be presiding.

The undergraduate class of 1958 will also hold a reunion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4.  Coffee will be served and opportunities for class photos will be provided at 10 a.m.  Campus tours will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.  A reunion luncheon will be held at Noon in the Presidents Dining Room. Moderator for the luncheon will be Mary Etta Clark Sanders, a 1958 graduate of the College of Liberal Arts.

College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Reunion

The College of Arts and Sciences will hold an alumni reunion on Saturday, Oct. 4, at
11 a.m. at Swilley Library on the Atlanta campus. There will be a program and brunch in The Jean Hendricks Room of the library.

Law Alumni Reception

The Walter F. George School of Law is hosting an alumni reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Chattahoochee River Club in Columbus.  Dean Daisy Hurst Floyd will be present to greet alumni.

Pharmacy Alumni Weekend

The College of Pharmacy will hold its annual alumni weekend Oct 17-18.

Reunion dinners for graduating classes will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at various locations in Atlanta. Classes with reunion dinners include: 1957 and before (Half Century classes), 1958, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 and 1998. 

A continuing education program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Trustees Dining Room, Atlanta Campus.  For more information regarding this event, contact the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Continuing Education Program at (678) 547-6174. 

An Alumni Antique and Special Interest Car Show also will be held on Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the Atlanta Campus.  A coffee reception for the Half Century Club will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

An Alumni Luncheon and Half Century Club Induction will be held in the Trustees Dining Room at 12:15 p.m.

Nursing Alumni Day

Georgia Baptist College of Nursing will hold its annual Alumni Day on Friday, Oct. 17.  The event, open to all alumni, will be held on the Atlanta Campus.

The day will begin with a continuing education session, focused on legal and ethical issues in nursing, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. in the College of Nursing building.  Individual lecturers and a panel of experts will address the topic, “Navigating Ethical and Legal Issues in a Changing Health Care Environment.”  The program counts for three contact hours toward certification.  A continental breakfast and registration for the session lasts from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

At 12:30 p.m. a luncheon will be held in the Trustees Dining Room.  University administrators and Dean Susan Sweat Gunby will bring greetings to the group and update them on the University and College of Nursing.  Recognition of outstanding alumni and induction into the College of Nursing’s Hall of Honor will occur.  The graduating class of 1958 will also be inducted into the Half Century Club and a memorial to deceased alumni will be read.  The graduating classes of 1958 and 1968 will have separate reunion events in the evening.
