Mercer Ranked Among Top 10 Schools in the South for 10th Consecutive Year

For the 10th consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Mercer among the top 10 comprehensive universities in the South.  Mercer is ranked No. 8 in the South in the 2009 “Best Universities-Master’s” category. The University has been ranked in the top 15 in that category for 19 consecutive years.

The University also claimed a spot in the South for “Great Schools, Great Prices,” ranking No. 6, while the University’s School of Engineering also repeated its national ranking among the top 50 schools focused on undergraduate engineering.

The “Great Schools, Great Prices” ranking reflects the magazine’s selection of institutions based on a number of criteria, including academic quality and the net cost of attendance for students receiving need-based aid, and the formula: “the higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal.”

In the ranking for “Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs,” Mercer’s School of Engineering placed 38th nationally, tied with 13 other engineering schools. Mercer is one of only four engineering schools in the South in the ranking. Since its establishment in 1985, Mercer School of Engineering has developed a strong reputation among employers in the state and is the single largest source of engineers for Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins.

According to U.S. News, the “Best Universities – Master’s” category is for institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs, and a few, if any, doctoral programs. A total of 572 universities are ranked within four geographic areas – North, South, Midwest and West.
