Soon to be graduates show their excitement during the May 10 commencement in Macon.
Mercer graduated more than 1,500 students from 11 schools and colleges during 10 commencements in May in Macon and Atlanta. Among the many highlights was the address given by Mercer Trustee and popular television show host Nancy Grace at the main Macon commencement on May 10 in the University Center. In her speech, she spoke on how the death of her fiancé changed the course of her studies and her life.
At the Stetson School of Business and Economics graduation in Atlanta, Arthur B. Laffer Sr., Ph.D., renowned economist who is often referred to as the “father of supply-side economics,” was presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. President William D. Underwood also announced to the gathering that Laffer would be joining the Mercer faculty in the fall as a Distinguished University Professor of Economics.
Most of the 2008 commencement addresses and the baccalaureate address given by retiring provost, Horace Fleming, are available online in text format. Nancy Grace’s speech is available by video streaming.
