Curriculum Plan for the RN-BSN Advanced Track
Beginning Summer 2010

The Fall 2009 RN-BSN Information Sessions are scheduled for the following dates and times:  Thursday, September 24 1:00-2:30, Thursday, October 22  1:00-2:30, and Thursday, November 5  1:00 - 2:30.

All Information sessions are held in the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing building on the Mercer-Atlanta Campus.  Interested nurses should call ahead to reserve a seat for the session.  Reservations can be made by calling 678-547-6800 or email by clicking here.

  Revision of the RN-BSN curriculum includes a new three semester  
  sequence for full-time students and a six semester sequence for 
  part-time students.  Students may continue to begin coursework
  summer semester (May), fall semester (August), or spring semester
  (January).  Core transfer courses, RN-BSN general education
  courses, and sequencing of the new RN-BSN curriculum plan is
  provided below.

The nursing component consists of eight upper division courses (30 semester hours) and 34 semester hours awarded for previous prelicensure courses for a total of 121 semester hours for the BSN.


  • The RN-BSN Advanced Track Curriculum Plan for Registered Nurse students requires 57 semester hours of general studies courses. The nursing component consists of eight nursing courses (30 semester hours).  The Essentials of Professional Nursing Practice (EPNP) is utilized in the curriculum plan in accordance with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice (2008). 
  • NURN 311 EPNP: Health Assessment for RNs offers the registered nursing student a systems approach for holistic appraisal of health care recipients.
  • NURN 307 EPNP: Issues and Ideas in American Nursing provides historical context for the baccalaureate degree.
  • NURN 308 EPNP: Social and Cultural Issues in Health and Illness provides a theoretical foundation for baccalaureate nursing through classroom discussion of high risk populations and acute and chronic illness.
  • NURN 407 EPNP: Community Health Nursing for RNs provides a foundation for integrating principles of epidemiology, health care policy, and emerging infectious diseases into promoting and maintaining heath of aggregate populations.
  • The content in NUR 403 EPNP: Nursing Research, NUR 404 EPNP: Leadership and Role Practicum, and Nursing Electives is identical to the prelicensure track.
