Elaine Harris specializes in the care of adult patients and holds certification in adult critical care from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She has expertise in theories and experiences related to death, dying, and bereavement and has served as a national and local chapter leader for The Compassionate Friends support group for bereaved parents. Research interests include the development of resilience in the practice of professional nursing, as well as the experience of loss. She has presented locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, has coauthored three published research studies, and is a frequent author of community-directed articles related to health, illness, and grief. Currently Professor Harris is part of a multidisciplinary research team which will prepare church members for ministry to individuals in the final stage of life.
